The First Door is a monumental mixed-media painting from Spiral of Memory, a body of work within The Archaic series by Alexandra AVROS.

A vast ammonite form emerges from darkness, its spiral unfolding beside deep organic cavities that resemble both ancient matter and openings into an unknown interior. The work does not depict an archaeological object. It approaches the spiral as a structure of return — a form that draws perception inward, toward something that existed before language, narrative, or conscious memory.

The title refers to the first threshold: not an entrance into another place, but the point at which surface becomes depth. The ammonite acts as both trace and orientation — a form preserved by time, yet still capable of opening perception in the present.

At this scale, the spiral is no longer an image to observe. It becomes an environment — a field the viewer enters physically and perceptually.
